ラマダン月も残すところあと2日となりました。ラマダン月は断食月ですが、ふだんよりも食品廃棄物が増えるそうです。アラブ首長国連邦のドバイでは、ふだんは廃棄物の33-38％を占めている食品廃棄物が、ラマダン月には55％を越えるのだそうです。

Now only 2 days left for Ramadan.  People must be fasting in this month,  but it seems that food waste exceeds other months.  On regular days food makes up 33 to 38 per cent of domestic waste, during Ramadan it goes up to 55 per cent or more.

全世界で年間13億トンの食品（サハラ以南の人口をまかなえる）が廃棄されており、日本でも毎年3,000万トンの食品（発展途上国の4,600万人をまかなえる）が廃棄されているそうなので、誰もが考えていかなくてはならない問題のようです。

At least 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year around the world, which could feed the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.  Also in Japan 30 million tonnes is wasted every year, which could feed 46 million people in developing countries.  Everyone needs to think of this issue.
